Heading into the final two events April 13 at the Bennington meet, the Goessel boys’ track and field team trailed by three points.
Jared Reimer and Laird Goertzen placed second and fourth in the 3200m run to help add points to Goessel’s total.
The 4x400m relay team of John Berkholz, Austin Unruh, Weston Hiebert, and Craig Banman, took first and helped the team claim the victory.
Banman was the only Bluebird to win gold in an individual event, winning 300m hurdles with a time of 40.9 seconds.
Many second and third places helped the Bluebirds collect enough points to win the meet.
The second meet in two days did not bode well for the Bluebirds as they did not run their best times of the season.
The weather was perfect for a track meet and Goessel athletes were placed in new events to see how combinations would work.
Even competing against larger schools like Hesston and Berean, the boys pulled together points and ended the meet with a first-place finish in the 4x400m relay.
Hiebert led the scoring with first and fourth place individual finishes in the 110 and 300m hurdles.
Reimer also claimed a first-place finish in the 3200m run, and a fifth-place finish in the 1600.
