Staff writer
It was a sour day Friday for Goessel boys and girls, as both lost at Berean Academy.
The Berean boys are ranked second in the state by Kansas Basketball Coaches Association.
Both boys teams started slowly, with Berean leading 6-4 at the end of one quarter.
The Warriors then began to show their dominance as they consistently increased their lead; 26-14 at halftime, 39-19 after the third quarter, and a final score of 55-32.
Dylan Lindeman scored 18 points, followed by Nathaniel Zogleman with six, and Skyler Wuest and Jacob Hagewood with four points apiece.
The Bluebird boys ended the season with a 14-6 record, giving them a second seed in the 1A Regional Tournament, with their first game Thursday.
The Goessel girls were stifled all evening at Berean. The Warriors won by a final score of 60-13.
Only four Bluebirds scored, with Elizabeth Schmucker and Porclein Unruh each scoring five points. Riley Graber added two and Bethany Herrel had one point.
The Bluebird girls ended the season 3-17. Their first game of the regional tournament was postponed because of Tuesday’s snowstorm.
