GOESSEL: cross country

Sports writer

For the first time in Goessel High School history, both the boys’ and girls’ cross country teams will run at the state meet in Wamego.

Both teams finished second Saturday at the regional meet, and will be part of the top-three teams from four regionals to compete at state.

Although the turf was soft from a week of rain, Goessel runners had a good day.

In the girls’ 4k race Kristen Hoffman and Shanna Klassen each medaled, and Jared Reimer was the only Bluebird boy to finish in the top-10 individually.

As a team, the girls finished behind a strong Burrton squad but well ahead of third place Colony Crest.

The Bluebird girls will run at noon at the Wamego Country Club.

The Goessel boys finished behind Pretty Prairie and just beat Stafford by four points to claim second place.

The 1A boys’ race will begin at 11 am.
