Goessel drops both games at Little River

Against the best Wheat State League team, Goessel boys faltered to a 57-40 loss Friday at Little River.

Little River exploded for 20 points in the second quarter to doom Goessel’s chances, and the visitors trailed 37-20 at halftime.

The Bluebirds kept pace with Little River in the second half and lost by a final score of 57-40. The Goessel boys are now 4-1 in the Wheat State League, second place; and 9-5 overall.

Goessel’s Tuesday league game at Centre will be followed by a Thursday game at Canton-Galva, and Friday at home against Herington.

Scoring summary: Skyler Wuest, 9; Jacob Hagewood, 9; Dylan Lindeman, 7; Nathaniel Zogleman, 6; Caiden Duerksen, 5; and Jerah Schmidt, 4.

Girls thwarted by Redskins

The Goessel girls lost 42-24 Friday at Little River.

The Bluebirds only went to the free throw line six times, and the Redskin defense caused 25 Bluebird turnovers.

Goessel trailed by nine at halftime 16-7, but Little River poured in 16 points in the third period to take a commanding 32-16 lead at the end of three quarters.

The Goessel girls are now 2-3 in the Wheat State League and 3-11 overall. Goessel will have a chance to move up in the standings this week with three league games.
