In a hard fought eight-man football game Friday at Peabody, Goessel came away with a loss in spite of scoring 52 points.
It was a back-and-forth contest with both teams leading at times.
The Bluebirds took the lead at the end of one quarter 14-0 on a pass play from Dylan Lindeman to Kale Funk for 8 yards and an 18-yard sprint by Zach Zogleman.
The Warriors scored early in the second period, but Zogleman got loose again, this time from 11 yards to give Goessel their largest lead 20-6.
Peabody scored two more times in the quarter and trailed the Bluebirds 20-18 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the teams traded scores with Goessel reaching the end zone on a Lindeman to Jacob Hagewood pass from nine yards.

In the fourth quarter, Peabody took the honors scoring first, but Goessel’s Luke Wiens took the ensuing kickoff 72 yards for a touchdown getting back within two points, 40-38.
The Warriors scored on a long pass play, but did not convert the extra points and Goessel responded less than a minute later on a 28 yard run by Zogleman.
The Bluebirds tied the game 46-46 on a Wiens to Funk pass for the extra points. Within seconds of the Bluebird score, Peabody responded with a 54-yard run and the extra points were good.
Luke Wiens crossed the goal line with 46 seconds left in the game, but the Warriors stopped the extra point attempt and Peabody won 54-52.
Justice Johnson led the Bluebirds with 13 solo tackles followed by Zogelman and Hagewood with nine each. Peabody-Burns ran 77 plays to Goessel’s 42.
