Goessel Elementary School earned the Governor’s Achievement Award.
The award recognizes the school as one of the top elementary schools in the state academically. There are 817 accredited elementary schools in Kansas, and only 40 received the award.
There are three criteria for the award, USD 411 Superintendent John Fast said.
In grades three through eight, each grade must meet state standards for math and reading proficiency. The school must meet all Annual Yearly Progress criteria, in accordance with No Child Left Behind standards. The school also must be in the top five percent of elementary schools in the state academically.
“Our staff and students have worked extremely hard, with our staff going the extra yard to help all students learn,” Fast said.
