Goessel football blown out by Canton-Galva, 56-8
Staff writer
On a warm Friday evening, the Bluebirds were unable to control the Canton-Galva Eagles.
The Eagles churned out 15 first downs rushing and never punted.
Goessel scored with just under five minutes to play in the first quarter on a Dylan Lindeman pass to Luke Wiens for a 12-yard strike.
But Canton-Galva had already scored twice, leaving the Bluebirds behind 14-8.
Goessel’s speed around the ends did not break loose against the Eagle defense.
Canton-Galva scored four more times, going into the half-time break ahead 42-8.
The third quarter kickoff bounced off the Goessel receiver’s chest and the Eagles recovered.
Deep in Goessel territory, Canton-Galva rambled in for another score. Goessel turned the ball over on fourth down and two plays later, the Eagles ended the game with another touchdown, winning 56-8.
Jacob Hagewood led the Bluebirds in tackles with five, but the defense met their match in this game.
Goessel is now 3-3 overall and 1-2 in district games. The Bluebirds will travel to Peabody Friday, who are also 1-2 in district games.
