Goessel football ends with win

Staff writer

Goessel hosted a cross-district game with Chase County High School Thursday.

The Bluebirds won the back-and-forth battle by a score of 46-42.

Chase County opened scoring with a long run, but Kale Funk responded with a 1-yard touchdown and the game was tied 8-8.

Goessel again matched a Chase County score with a Dylan Lindeman to Jacob Hagewood 34-yard pass play to get within 16-14.

The combination of Lindeman to Hagewood worked late in the first quarter for a 48-yard scoring play and the quarter ended with Goessel ahead 22-20.

In the second quarter the offenses slowed and the only scoring was a Lindeman 9-yard run with Hagewood carrying the extra point and the Bluebirds stretched their lead at half-time to 30-20.

Chase County scored first in the second half but a Luke Wiens to Hagewood pass for 39 yards kept the lead at 12 points 38-26.

Chase County scored on a 56 yard run as time expired in the third quarter to get as close as 38-34.

The Bluebirds ate up time on the clock and scored with four minutes left in the game on a Lindeman to Hagewood pass from three yards to take a 46-34 lead.

Chase County answered with their last score with 2:46 left in the game for the 46-42 final.

Goessel finished District 4 play in fifth place and Chase Country finished District 3 play in fifth place. The Bluebirds ended the season with a record of 4-5.
