Goessel dominated on offense and defense Friday in a 48-0 home win against Herington.
Luke Wiens took the honors of running in the first touchdown of the night from the 21 yard line and Jacob Hagewood dove across the goal line snagging the extra points.
Kale Funk zipped 22 yards for the second score.
Shaking off multiple tacklers, Wiens struggled 32 yards for the third score of the first quarter, leading 20-0.
In the second quarter, Goessel piled up long gains on several runs from Funk and Dylan Lindeman.
The offensive line of Dylan Riley, Eddie Gaeddert and Logan Sterk opened holes for the running backs, and Funk sprinted eight yards, nearly untouched, for the fourth score of the game. Lindeman scored the extra points and Goessel led 28-0.
Herington misjudged a pitch in the backfield, but since it was not a forward pass, Hagewood scooped up the loose ball and ran 39 yards for a Bluebird score.
Jake Wiens followed the blockers for the extra points.
Luke Wiens maneuvered downfield for 44 yards for the last score in the first half. Goessel led 42-0.
An interception by Caiden Duerksen killed a final drive by Herington to end the half.
After the Bluebirds stopped the Railroaders on their first possession of the second half, it was J. Wiens who carried the ball around the left side, cutting up field from the nine-yardline to cross the goal line.
The game ended 48-0, with 9:23 left in the third quarter.
Funk and L. Wiens led the team with two touchdowns each. L. Wiens, Riley and Duerksen led the Bluebird defense in the lopsided contest.
Goessel (4-1) will travel to Canton-Galva (5-0) for an important district game on Friday. Both teams are 2-0 in District games.
