GOESSEL: GHS boys score early points in league meet
In the first running event of the first ever Wheat State League track meet Friday at Goessel, Laird Goertzen set the pace and won the event handily for an early 10 points. In the 1600-meter run, Goertzen again set the pace, but a runner from Peabody-Burns High School and one from Little River stayed within striking distance. The last lap was shoulder-to-shoulder all the way to the finish line with the PBHS runner taking first, Goertzen second, and the Little River runner third, with only 2 seconds separating the three places.
The 4x800 relay team ran the race for only the second time this season. As encouragement to do their best, GHS senior Adam Meysing was heard shouting to his teammates, “You have a whole year to recover, so go all out!”
The relay team improved its time and finished in fourth place.
Nathan Czarnowsky had his best jump of the season in long jump but the boys could only add 10 points to Goertzen’s early events and finished in eighth place.
The Bluebirds will be at Burlington Friday for the 1A regional track meet.
