GOESSEL: GHS CC at state meet

Sports writer

Seven runners from Goessel competed at the boy’s 2A state cross-country meet Saturday in Wamego.  The Bluebird team did not do as well as they had hoped. The cold air and hilly course may have limited performances.

Jared Reimer finished 33rd with a time of 18 minutes, 38.42 seconds. Laird Goertzen moved up a couple of spots by improving his time over the regional meet from a week earlier and he crossed the line in 19:13.60.

Derek Kruger came in at 19:35.22, Lukas Kemkes 19:54.55, Said Bahloul 20:39.02, Chad Wedel 22:03.12, and Stephan Goertzen came in at 24:22.73.

Reimer, Kruger, and Wedel are seniors this year.

Kristen Hoffman was the lone girl running for Goessel. She ended her career in the Bluebird uniform in 62nd place and crossed the finish line in 18:49.06. Hoffman has paced the Goessel team for several seasons and has been to the prestigious state cross-country meet more than once in her career.
