Out of 10 teams at the Pretty Prairie Golf tournament April 25, the Goessel High School Bluebird golf team finished fifth.
Shane Goerzen shot a consistent 90 and Trey Schmidt followed with a solid 92. Neal Brubaker finished 18 holes with a 95 and Jake Smucker followed with 98. Davis Cook and Braden Unruh ended the day with 102 and 106, respectively.
The varsity team played at Marion Tuesday and will participate Friday in the Marion County Invitational. Goessel will return to Pretty Prairie May 16 for regional competition.
Friday was a day that was windy enough to send grown men indoors but the Goessel junior varsity team participated in a tournament at Pine Edge Golf Course. The Bluebirds earned second place as a team as Stephan Goertzen and Austin Strunk picked up third and fifth-place individual medals. Goertzen finished with a 42 after nine holes and Strunk earned a score of 45. Dan Smucker battled the wind for a 54, Reece Hiebert 58, Jake Herrel 63, Garrett Woelk 66, and Ben Wiens 68.
