Goessel girls bomb Wakefield
Page Hiebert led Goessel in scoring and rebounding as the Bluebirds remained unbeaten with a 42-23 win Friday over Wakefield.
The Bombers played deliberately, passing the ball around the perimeter, searching for a crack in the Bluebirds’ defense. With less than two minutes to play in the first quarter, the Bluebirds led 6-5.
Goessel jumped out to a 13-5 lead, with Eden and Page Hiebert scoring all 13 points. Alicen Meysing hit lay-ups with both the left and right hand as Goessel stretched its lead 20-12 at halftime.
The Bombers’ offense went silent in the third quarter, scoring just one free throw. Goessel led 30-13 at the end of the third period. Both teams scored 10 points in the fourth quarter and Goessel claimed its fourth win in the Wheat State League.
Page Hiebert led the team with 22 points and 14 rebounds. Meysing added 10 points. Eden Hiebert dropped in 6 points.
The Bluebirds, 9-0, play at Moundridge on Friday.
