The Goessel girls’ basketball team wrapped up another Wheat State League championship Friday by beating Solomon 49-22, completing a perfect 7-0 run through league foes.
The outcome was never in doubt as the Bluebirds flew away to victory with quarter scores of 17-4, 31-7, and 47-11.
Page Hiebert and Alicen Meysing each scored 13, and Eden Hiebert hit for 9. Goessel now posts an overall record of 15-2.
Solomon entered the boys game undefeated, but Goessel stayed with the home team for one quarter, 9-9.
The Gorillas pulled away in the second period, scoring 11 consecutive points to take a 37-20 lead at halftime. The Bluebirds stayed 17 points behind through the third period, but Solomon took advantage of Goessel’s mounting foul problems in the fourth to win 66-38.
Zach Wiens ended with 13 points, and Drew Lindeman added 8.
The Bluebird boys finished league play 2-5 and are 8-9 overall.
Goessel played Udall on Tuesday and will be at home against Canton-Galva on Friday.
