Goessel girls make multiple 3-pointers to win game

For the first time in eight seasons, the Goessel girls combined for six 3-pointers in one game.

The Bluebirds opened the season with a 51-17 win at Inman. Eden Hiebert arched in a 3-pointer and then converted a 2-pointer to begin the scoring for the Bluebirds on Friday.

Goessel jumped to a 19-1 lead before Inman hit its first basket.

Page Hiebert hit two 3-pointers, Brittney Hiebert notched another in the second quarter as Goessel exploded to a 35-7 lead at half-time.

The offense slowed in the third period as the Bluebirds gained more ground, scoring 10 points to the Teutons 5.

The clock ran non-stop in the fourth period as Goessel gained its largest lead of the night, 50-13.

Aleena Cook, Brittney Hiebert, Eden Hiebert and Page Hiebert all connected on three pointers. The Bluebirds were credited with nine steals, and Olivia Duerksen led the team with four of those.

Page Hiebert led the Bluebirds with 23 points, Eden Hiebert and Alicen Meysing followed with 8 points each. Cook scored 6 points with Brittney Hiebert hitting for 3 points and leading the team with 7 rebounds. Ashley Hiebert hit 2 points and Kara Burkholder put in a free throw.

Goessel will be at home Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, hosting the Bluebird Classic. Goessel will face Elyria Christian on Tuesday and Little River on Friday.

Saturday’s game will be determined after knowing the results of the first two games.
