In 88 degree weather on Friday, Tia Goertzen of Goessel High School ended the season with a 10th and 11th place in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles respectively. Both of these races were her fastest times of the season.
“I feel good about the race. I had a good stride for the first three hurdles and did not have to alternate the leading foot until the fourth hurdle,” she said.
Brittny Czarnowsky ended her career with a disappointing race in the 3,200-meter run.
“Something just was not right today. I was nervous and it was warm,” she said after the race. “The regional race was fun. I would like to do that again.”
Czarnowsky started the eight-lap race in a group of 12 runners at the front. As the group began to spread out in single file, Czarnowsky settled in ninth place for several laps. She finished in 14th-place with a time of 13 minutes, 25.89 seconds.
Ali Buller ran in the 800. Buller was caught in a bunch around eighth place after the first 100 meters. As the bunches spread out in the last lap Buller held on to eighth place, but could not catch the runner in front of her. She missed a state medal by one position.
