Staff writer

The Goessel girls are 9-0 approaching the middle of the season, picking up a convincing win Friday over Wakefield 62-33.

The Bluebirds took control early, grabbing a 23-10 lead. After an evenly-matched second quarter, Goessel dominated the third and coasted the rest of the way.

Four girls scored in double digits, with Page Hiebert leading the way with 17.

In the boys’ game, the Bluebirds couldn’t overcome a slow start, losing to Wakefield 46-40.

The Bombers took at 10-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, and held on throughout the game. Goessel gained momentum in the fourth quarter, but not in enough time to complete a comeback.

Zack Wiens led the Bluebirds in scoring with 13.

Goessel played Little River in the first round of the Burrton tournament Tuesday, losing a hard-fought game 47-45.
