The Goessel Bluebirds girls’ track team accumulated enough points to win the 15-team Tescott Invitational meet on a beautiful day May 3.
Freshman Stephany Meyer won the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 6.5 inches, placed second in long jump at 15-2, took third in 400 meters with a time of 65.90 seconds, and joined teammates Olivia Duerksen, Julia Nightengale, and Brittney Hiebert in winning the 4x400 relay.
Hiebert just missed a Goessel record in the 800 but finished first at Tescott in a time of 2:26.40 Hiebert also finished second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 61.90. Duerksen earned points with fourth place in both the long jump and high jump.
Julia Nightengale finished the 1600 in 6:21.60 for second place, and also placed third in the 3200. In pole vault, teammates Abby Hannon and Shelbi Stultz combined for third and fourth places respectively.
Goessel picked up an important point by finishing sixth in the 4x100 relay with Kara Burkholder, Megan Guerrero, Hannon and Duerksen.
For the boys, Zach Wiens finished first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.90, and second in the 300-hurdles in 44.50.
Chase Flaming captured fifth place in shot put, and joined Wiens, Zach Zogleman, and Josh Schmidt on the sixth-place 4x100 relay. Freddy Scheffe, Zogleman, Wiens, and Schmidt placed fourth in the 4x400 relay..
The boys’ team finished ninth.
