Goessel cross-country boys take 3rd

Staff writer

Knowing the course would not lead to best times of the season, the Goessel runners worked more for position than time at Harvey County West Park. The course was marked around the camping area and onto a nature trail.

Goessel boys finished their races strong. Laird Goertzen passed several runners in the last part of the race to finish with a second-place medal. Heath Goertzen followed his brother in 20th place and Nathan Czarnowsky was right behind in 21st.

Stephan Goertzen finished 31st helping the Goessel team to a tie with Fairfield. Grant Flaming’s 32nd-place finish allowed Goessel to win the tiebreaker, giving the Bluebird boys team third place in the meet.

Ben Wiens finished 16th in the junior varsity race and Garret Woelk came in 22nd.

Brittny Czarnowsky ran a strong race and maintained third-place throughout the last part of the course.

Goessel will now be off a week and will race in the 1A regional meet Oct. 23 at Mound City.
