All seven boys on the Goessel High School cross-country team picked the flat terrain at the Berean Invitational at Harvey County East Park to set their personal best marks for this season.
Laird Goertzen busted through the 18-minute barrier, finishing the 5-kilometer race in 17 minutes, 21.55 seconds and picked up a ninth-place medal. Nathan Czarnowsky ran his race in 20:04.97 with Heath Goertzen right behind in 20:11.97. Grant Flaming came in at 21:12.46 with Stephan Goertzen ending his race in 21:45.18.
In the junior varsity race, Ben Wiens came in at 22:53.03 and Garrett Woelk finished in 26:32.27.
Brittny Czarnowsky picked up tenth-place with a time of 18:04.42 in the girls varsity division.
Goessel will be at Harvey County West Park next week for a meet hosted by Burrton. The Bluebirds know their regional cross-country meet will be Oct. 23 at the Sugar Valley Golf Course near Mound City, straight east of Goessel, and within 10 miles of the Missouri border.
