Goessel cross-country team competed at Hesston Thursday, where each grade runs separately.
Three Goessel runners finished in the top 10 in their grade. Bluebird girls earned 11th place as a team out of 19 schools and the boys earned 12th place as a team out of 20 schools.
Goessel girls
Among the seniors, Kristen Hoffman trimmed more than a minute off last week’s race to finish fourth with a time of 17 minutes, 40 seconds. Sophomore Brittny Czarnowsky earned a ninth-place medal in a time of 18:50. Lindsey Wedel broke the 20-minute mark, crossing the line in 19:59.
Three Bluebird runners trimmed one minute off last week’s time. Shanna Klassen’s time was 20:19, Johanna Rumler came in at 21:08, and Patricia Steffens finished at 21:42.
Goessel boys
Jared Reimer finished sixth in the race for seniors with a time of 17:52. Teammate Derek Kruger improved on his time from last week with a 20th-place finish at 19:23. Chad Wedel also improved from a week ago, finishing with a time of 21:40.
Lucas Kemkes finished 11th among junior runners in a time of 19:58. Sophomore Stephen Goertzen cut nearly one minute off his time from last week to finish at 22:50.
Freshman Grant Flaming improved by finishing in 23:36.
Goessel teams will compete Thursday at a Canton-Galva meet.
