GOESSEL: Goessel defeats Canton-Galva for seventh win of season
Canton-Galva High School Eagles scored first Friday night and led at the end of the first quarter, 8-0, but the Goessel High School Bluebirds got their rhythm going in the second quarter and led at halftime, 24-16.
The scoring success continued for Goessel in the third period with the Bluebirds scoring 28 points to lead at the end of three periods, 52-22. Canton-Galva held the Bluebirds scoreless in the fourth period and crossed the goal line twice to make the final score, 52-36.
Cameron Stultz led the Bluebirds in scoring with three rushing touchdowns and three rushing conversions, accumulating 103 yards on the ground.
Weston Hiebert had 10 solo tackles and 99 yards receiving with two touchdowns.
Neal Brubaker threw for three touchdowns and a total of 191 yards with no interceptions.
Others who scored for Goessel were John Berkholz and Hayden Goerzen.
Goessel, now 7-1 overall and 5-0 in district play, have locked in a berth in the playoffs with this win. Pretty Prairie, also 5-0 in district play, will be at Goessel Thursday to determine district champion.
The top two teams in each district move on to bi-district competition.
