GOESSEL: Goessel golf relies on seniors

Staff writer

Coach Chad Lindeman says he is optimistic for a Goessel golf team that came within one spot of a berth at state in 2018.

When returning varsity members Chris Strecker, Kendall Hiebert, and Dylan Lindeman opens the season April 2 at Herington, the team will take its first step toward that goal.

“We should compete pretty well in the Wheat State League,” Lindeman said. “I assume our regional tournament will be at Marion this year, and if we qualify for state, we get to play at Hesston for the 2A State Championship.”

While early in the season, there already are signs of progress for the Bluebirds, Lindeman said.

“Seven students showed up for golf that have never played the game before,” Lindeman said. “But there is good potential, because on the second day of practice, some of the inexperienced players are already hitting the ball better than on the first day.”

Lindeman will have the chance to try younger golfers in different spots as he selects six for varsity meets.
