Goessel golfers come on strong

Staff writer

Coach Justin Coup was pleased with the performance of the Goessel High School golf team May 3, as the Bluebirds captured second place as a team at the Marion County tournament.

Trey Schmidt had a blistering 36 on the first nine and finished in second individually with a total score of 81. Shane Goerzen’s 89 was good enough for seventh place individually. Neal Brubaker picked up the last individual medal for the Bluebirds at 15th place, shooting a 92. Davis Cook dropped in a 94. Jake Smucker was right behind at 95 and Braden Unruh finished with a 102.

The Bluebirds were at Hesston on Monday in a challenge tournament between the Wheat State League and the Heart of the Plains League. They placed second.
