GOESSEL: Goessel golfers finish eighth in state
Seniors Brubaker and Smucker help golf team to state

For the third consecutive year, Goessel High School senior Neal Brubaker participated Monday in the state golf meet. He earned an eighth-place medal May 16 at regionals in Pretty Prairie. Fellow senior teammate Jake Smucker also headed for state with the team for his last tournament as a Bluebird.
At the state meet, Shane Goerzen was the highest finisher for the Bluebirds, with an 88 good enough for 25th.
Goerzen earned the 10th-place individual medal at the regional meet. This was his second time at state.
As a team, Goessel shot 362 at the regional and 365 at state.
In regional competition, the Bluebirds earned third as a team behind host Pretty Prairie and St John.
Regional finals, in order of finishes, were Brubaker, Goerzen, Trey Schmidt, Braden Unruh, Smucker, and Davis Cook.
Other finishers at state were Schmidt, Unruh, Smucker, and Brubaker.
