Goessel has high hopes for track season

Staff writer

Forty-one athletes reported for early season practices this year at Goessel.

Six girls and six boys with state track meet experience are on the team again for this season.

Emily Flaming ran in the 4x800 and 4x400 relay last May at the state meet.

“There were a lot of people in the stadium,” Flaming remembered.

“And there was a lot of support” added Dylan Riley, who qualified in the 400 meter dash.

Distance runners of Ben Olsen, Timothy Schrag, and Jacob Schrag competed on the 4x800 relay and are looking for another chance to qualify.

Grant Bryant and Kacen Smith, both juniors, earned eighth place medals in the 4x100 relay last year and return for another chance.

Jaicee Griffin, Aleece Lehrman, Rylee Walker, Riley Graber, and Cheyenne Sawyer also return this year with state track memories.

Kaleigh Guhr, David Johnson, Joey Lapp, and Klay Willis join the group of state qualifiers as letter-winners from last season.

“We are looking forward to a good year again at Goessel,” coach Curtis Guhr said. “We’re hoping for a balanced team of sprinters and distance runners.”

Goessel will begin the season with a meet Tuesday at Goessel and then one April 8 at Marion.
