The Goessel varsity golf team finished fourth out of eight teams Thursday at Sedgwick. Trey Schmidt led team members with a top score of 84. He placed sixth in the individual rankings.
Tyler Schulz came in at 91. Reece Hiebert, Lucas Hiebert and Dan Smucker scored 99, 100, and 101, respectively. Zach Showalter finished with 118.
The Bluebirds’ team score was 374, their best of the season and they finished ahead of Pretty Prairie, Sedgwick, Peabody and Bluestem.
On April 22, a small squad went to Pretty Prairie and battled adverse weather conditions as well as opponents.
After nine holes, Lucas Hiebert posted a 52, Reece Hiebert 52, Showalter 53, and Austin Strunk 55.
Goessel junior varsity golfers recently got experience with a tournament at Pine Edge Golf Course near Goessel. Kellen Froese posted the best score for the Bluebirds with a 49 in the light rain. Luke Unruh scored 56, Amelie Kirner ended with 59, Jade Sterk tallied 68, Johanna Hoffman 70, Jordan Schmucker 71, and Martina Fillipe 77.
Goessel’s varsity team competed Tuesday at Marion.
