Goessel grabs WSL honors
Goessel girls’ basketball coach Ryan Hoopes is the Wheat State League coach of the year, and five Goessel players snared first-team honors, the league announced Monday.
Hoopes guided a young Bluebirds team to an undefeated league season and the championship game of the Class 1A Division 1 substate tournament in Rosalia, where Goessel fell to eventual state tournament third-place finisher Centre.
Juniors Page Hiebert and Aleena Cook and freshman Eden Hiebert were named to the first team, the most of any WSL school. Junior Alicen Meysing received honorable mention.
On the boys’ side, senior Lawton Makovec and junior Zach Wiens represented the Bluebirds on the first team.
