After missing two meets, Goessel’s only girl runner, Brittny Czarnowsky, picked the pace where she left off and then ran a personal best in the second meet this week.

At Southeast of Saline, Czarnowsky tied her previous best this season with a time of 18 minutes, 23 seconds and then at the Marion Country Club, medaled with an 18th place finish with a time of 17:09.98

The Goessel boys mixed things up this week in the two meets. Heath Goertzen led the team at Southeast of Saline with a finishing time of 20:10. Nathan Czarnowsky was close behind and Ben Wiens nudged Grant Flaming in Tuesday’s race.

On Thursday, at the Marion Country Club, Nathan Czarnowsky broke the 20-minute barrier with a time of 19:57.42. Goertzen finished in 20:25.18, Wiens ran a personal best at 20:53.44 with Flaming coming in at 21:14.47. Dan Smucker and Garrett Woelk rounded out the competition for the Bluebirds in the varsity race. Jake Herrel medaled in the Junior Varsty race at Marion on Thursday with a time of 21:52.70.

“Finishing races continues to be a strength for several of our runners,” said Coach Derrick Birdsell. “Nathan (Czarnowsky), Ben (Wiens) and Grant (Flaming) all passed several people in the stretch this week.”

The Bluebirds will run at Berean Academy on Thursday.
