Goessel loses two on senior night

It was senior night at the Bluebird gym on Friday, but the competition was Berean Academy, with both teams posting excellent records.
Both Goessel teams lost games to the visitors with the girls falling 50-30, and the boys 55-16 with sub-state beginning Monday.
Girls
Goessel’s offense started to sputter once Stephaney Meyer picked up her third foul early in the second quarter.
Elizabeth Schmucker scored four points in the first half, and Maddi Smith hit three free throws, but Goessel trailed 27-10 at the break.
Meyer scored 10 points in the third quarter as the Bluebirds stayed even with the Warriors.
However, Berean’s defense allowed it to stretch its lead to the 50-30 final and drop the Bluebirds to 4-15 overall.
Scoring summary: Meyer, 17 points; Schmucker, 6; M. Smith, 5; Chloe Smith, 2.
Boys
Against the sixth-ranked team in Class 1A, Goessel played the Warriors to a 9-9 tie after the first quarter.
