Goessel netters win two, lose two
The Bluebirds traveled to Herington for two Wheat State League matches.
Goessel competed well against Little River in the first set and snuck out a 28-26 win. In the next two sets, the Redskins dominated 25-13, 25-13; giving the Bluebirds their first loss in league play.
In the second match of the evening, Goessel dominated Peabody-Burns in the first set 25-13. The Bluebirds were hoping to repeat the performance in the second set, but the tide changed suddenly.
Early in the second set, a Goessel player suffered an injury and needed an ambulance. The teams were visibly shaken, and play continued after a long delay.
“Peabody was compassionate, and we appreciate the heartfelt support they showed,” coach Crysta Guhr said.
Goessel won the second set 25-23.
Thursday night the Bluebirds traveled to Douglass to play two non-league matches. Sedgwick dominated the Bluebirds 25-10, 25-10. After a 25-18 loss to Douglass, the Bluebirds turned things around winning 25-12, 25-21. Goessel is now 3-1 in the Wheat State League and 6-6 overall.
Goessel will have their first home game on Tuesday with Herington and Wichita Classical.
