Goessel returns 8 to gridiron

Staff writer

Goessel football will try to improve its 2-7 record from 2017.

Coach Garrett Hiebert has eight starters returning from last season.

“We are not a big group, so we will have to make up for our lack of size with technique and effort,” said Hiebert.

Senior Justice Johnson, at 210 pounds, will be expected to bolster both the offensive and defensive line.

Senior Zach Zogleman will be counted on as a running back and defensive back.

Dylan Lindeman is expected to start at quarterback, but sophomore Luke Wiens also has experience in that position.

Speed from Jacob Hagewood and Kale Funk will contribute to the Bluebird season.

Luke Freeman and Eddie Gaddert will support the team as linemen.

Friday will be the first Bluebirds game at Moundridge, who will be trying eight-man football for the first time. Goessel will have two home games, Sept 14 and Sept 21.

As young players gain experience, and older players develop leadership, Goessel is hoping for players to reach their goals and have a successful season.
