Goessel rolls over Centre
Both the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams picked up wins Tuesday against Centre.
The boys took control of the game from the outset, building a 15-6 lead in the opening quarter. The teams played even in the second period, with Goessel holding a 31-22 lead at the half. A 28-point explosion in the third quarter gave the Bluebirds what they needed to coast to a 74-52 win.
Zach Wiens scored 28 and Lawton Makoved scored 16 to fuel Goessel’s largest scoring output of the season.
After trailing at halftime, the Goessel girls clamped down defensively, holding the Cougars to eight second-half points. The Bluebirds came back, scoring 12 points in the final period to win 43-32.
Aleena Cook scored 12 and Page Hiebert scored 11.
