Goessel runners win Wheat State

Both Goessel cross-country teams won first place in a soggy field on Thursday at the Wheat State League meet at the Bethel College cross-country course in Newton.

A total of 28 runners competed in the boys’ division with the top ten earning medals.

Six Bluebirds received medals with a strong showing, finishing ahead of Canton-Galva and Little River.

For the girls’ teams, 18 runners completed the 5K course, and five Goessel runners earned medals, with Elsie Clark finishing as league champion.

Goessel edged out Little River for the championship.

Goessel will race at Belleville Country Club at the regional cross-country meet on Saturday.

The top three teams will compete at the state cross-country meet in Wamego the following Saturday.
