Goessel scholars tie for league title
Staff writer
The Goessel High School varsity scholars bowl team tied for first at the Wheat State League Scholars Bowl Tournament on Jan. 12.
The Bluebirds won six matches by an average of 56 points. Goessel and White City compiled identical 6-1 records to tie for first place. White City’s win over Goessel in the round-robin format was the determining tiebreaker that gave the championship to the Huskies.
Varsity team members Gentry Thiesen, Erin Brubaker, Aaron Woelk, Zach Wiens, Alicen Meysing, and Benedict Heyl will compete Thursday in the regional tournament at Kiowa. The Bluebirds will be trying for a return trip to state, where they finished third last year.
Wes Schmidt-Tieszen is head coach, assisted by Andrew Voth.
