Goessel scores 20 in Wakefield loss

The Goessel football team lost to Wakefield 68-20 on Friday.
The first quarter was lopsided in Wakefield’s favor, as Goessel trailed 32-0 at the end of the period.
The Bluebirds shook off the slow start by scoring in the first minute of the second quarter on a 47-yard sprint by Zach Zogleman.
The Bombers scored twice, but the Bluebirds responded with a Dylan Lindeman scoring pass to Jordan Griffin covering 39 yards.
Wakefield scored again with less than two minutes to play in the half, but Goessell wasn’t finished. The Bluebirds worked the ball down the field, scoring on another Lindeman-to-Griffin pass from 4 yards out with 20 seconds to play. The score at halftime was Wakefield 54, Goessel 20.
The Bombers kept the Bluebirds at bay by scoring twice in the third quarter, ending the game due to the 45-point rule.
The Bluebirds accumulated 96 yards passing and 91 yards rushing. Carson Sterk led the Bluebirds defense with 8.5 tackles, followed by Luke Wiens with 6.
Goessel will face another Wheat State League opponent, Centre, at home Friday.
