Goessel to show off historic implements

Ford and other historic agricultural machines will awake, roar, and putter Aug. 4 to 6 at Country Threshing Days in Goessel.

“There was a push for Ford because we hadn’t featured Ford in a while,” event organizer James Wiens said. “There will be other brands like John Deere, Case, International, and the like there, too.”

More than 100 exhibitors from seven states are expected to attend.

“There will be tractors, tillage equipment, old farm equipment, old trucks on display,” Wiens said. “Some will be in the parade downtown some will not because they’re hard on the pavement, but most will be available to see during the demonstrations.”

Much of the event will be conducted on the threshing grounds, Wiens said. Among activities will be harvest, sawmill, threshing, field, steam tractor, large stationary engine demonstrations.

His wife, Connie, said opportunities for authentic German food and family activities will abound. Included will be a children’s pedal-tractor pull.

Ventriloquist Greg Classen will perform at 7:30 Aug. 4 at Goessel High School.

Wheat Heritage Engine and Threshing and Mennonite Heritage and Agricultural Museum present the event. Both museums will be open throughout the event.

In the timeless sprit of farming Wiens said, “We’re hoping for good weather.”
