Goessel track teams bring home medals

Goessel boys picked up 82 points to finish in fourth place as a team at the Fairfield High School track meet April 11.

Senior Josh Schmidt picked up points in all four of his individual events. He won the 200-meter dash in 24.18 seconds, placed third in long jump and triple jump, and fourth in 100.

Jordan Griffin edged Schmidt in triple jump for second place, took third in high jump, fifth in javelin, and sixth in long jump.

Zach Guerrero entered the 300 hurdles for the first time this season and picked up first place.

In the 3200, Jerah Schmidt picked up fourth place and David Kuhne placed fifth. Kuhne finished fourth in the 1600.

Zach Zogleman earned a fifth place medal in the 800 run and scored points in all three relays.

The 4x400 relay team placed second and 4x800 relay team placed third.

The Goessel girls finished second of six teams. Three different Goessel girls picked up first place medals in individual events: Olivia Duerksen cleared 4’10” in high jump, Brittney Hiebert ran the 400 in 64.97 seconds, and Stephany Meyer sailed 33’6.5” in triple jump.

Meyer finished second in long jump, followed by Duerksen in third.

Katherine Manis ran the 300 hurdles in :54.40 for second place and finished in third in the 100 hurdles.

Lauren Rymill finished the 1600 in second place and Julia Nightengale earned third.

Kara Burkholder had her best throw of the season in javelin, 101’2”, for third place.

Elyse Boden picked up second place in the 3200 and fourth place in the 800. Megan Guerrero picked up two sixth place finishes in the 100 and 200 dash.

Other individuals that added to the team totals were Maria Fuster third in 300 hurdles, Edel Miller fifth in 800, and Porclein Unruh sixth in 3200 run.

First places were earned by two relay teams. Hiebert, Nightengale, Rymill, and Maddy Meier finished in 11:27.28 in the 4x800 relay. Meyer, Hiebert, Manis and Rymill combined for a time of 4:30.28 in the 4x400 relay.

Burkholder, Guerrero, Duerksen and Manis earned third place in the 4x100 relay.

The Goessel track teams were at home on Tuesday.
