Goessel track teams place 5th

Several girls picked up points in track events for the first time this year as Goessel scored 53 team points to pick up fifth place out of eight schools at the Herington Invitational Track Meet on Friday.

Lara Schmid picked up her first point of the season by placing sixth in the 200 meter dash. Makayla King and Erin Brubaker earned points in three individual events.

Goessel will host the Wheat State League Track Meet on Thursday and then prepare for the 1A Regional Meet at Burlington on May 18.

High Jump: 4. Erin Brubaker, 4 feet, 6 inches.

Javelin: 2. Makayla King, 75-11; 4. Makaila Schmidt, 71-8.

Long Jump: 4. Brubaker, 12-9.50.

Triple Jump 5. Makayla King, 27-8.

100-meter hurdles: 4. Tia Goertzen, 19.20 seconds.

300 Hurdles: 5. Brubaker, 55.60.

200-meter dash: 5. King, 32.90; 6. Lara Schmid, 33.00.

400: 3. Goertzen, 1:09.80.

800: 2. Ali Buller, 2:36.70.

3200: 2. Brittny Czarnowsky, 13:26.70.

Boys

The Bluebirds could only accumulate 40 points but several events had two Goessel athletes in the top six. Shot put, triple jump, 200-meter dash and the 1600 each had a pair of Goessel athletes score points. The Bluebirds finished fifth as a team out of eight schools. Davis Cook and Heath Goertzen each scored points in two individual events. Goessel will host the Wheat State League Meet on Thursday.
