The Goessel High School girls’ volleyball team tangled with some tough competition this past week and picked up two more victories as the regular season came to an end.
The Bluebirds beat Peabody-Burns Oct. 14, 25-15, 25-12 but lost to school Remington 25-21, 24-26, 19-25.
These matches were against league schools but did not count in league standings.
Goessel had defeated both teams earlier in the season.
Karina Harvey led the team with 28 digs, Rinda Duerksen registered 21 kills, and Jessica Goertzen had 42 assists.
Serving 100 percent for the night were Aspen Frey, Amy Brubaker, and Karina Harvey.
The Heart of America League Tournament features some of the best 1-3A schools in the state.
Goessel was in a pool Saturday with Moundridge, Hutch Trinity, and Ell-Saline.
GHS defeated Ell-Saline 25-23, 25-13.
The Bluebirds lost a hotly contested battle with Trinity 31-29, 25-22, and against highly ranked Moundridge, the Bluebirds were defeated 25-18, 25-12.
Overall the Bluebirds are now 25-9 on the season.
Goessel played Tuesday at Burrton for the 1A regional tournament.
With a first round bye, the Bluebirds played the winner of the Burrton-Hope match, but results were not available at press time.
The top two teams from 1A regionals will travel Saturday to Madison for the sub-state tournament.
