The lady Bluebirds, fighting illness during the weekend, struggled with the Wakefield Bombers Sept. 18, losing a close first set 24-26, but then rebounding to win the match 25-14, 25-9.

In the next match, Solomon’s athleticism nearly upset the Bluebirds. Goessel won the first set 25-18, but the Gorillas tied the match with a 21-25 win. Goessel, exhausted, hung on to win the final set, 25-21.

In the Olpe tournament, the Bluebirds faced stiff competition. Goessel defeated Madison handily, winning 25-9, 25-12.

The Bluebirds lost two matches to Northern Heights and Wabunsee before squeaking out a victory against Bishop Seabury Academy, 28-26, 27-25. Olpe controlled the match with Goessel, winning 25-18, 25-17.

The Bluebirds are now 13-7 overall and 4-1 in the Wheat State League.

Goessel played Tuesday with Canton-Galva and Centre. Saturday will find the Bluebird team at the Canton-Galva Tournament.
