Girls golf to field full team
With five athletes out for Centre girls golf, the Cougars will be able to compete as a team as well as individually, and coach Max Venable is excited about the prospect.
“We have been working hard at practice and expect to place as a team,” he said. “Our girls will work toward individual placing in meets, as well.”
Three members are returning letter-winners: seniors Samantha Engler and Cecilia Rziha and sophomore Jorja Peterson.
Last year, they competed in five regular season meets, and two competed at regionals but did not advance to state.
Sophomore Brooklyn Smith and freshman Leah Brunner are newcomers to the team.
The team’s first meet was Tuesday at Emporia. Venables is in his third year as coach.
