A ballot question on whether to form a recreational district for the Marion-Florence school district was approved in a landslide in Tuesday’s general election.

A total of 1,196 votes were cast in favor and only 297 were opposed.

In state races, the county went uniformly Republican.

Derek Schmidt outpaced Laura Kelly in the race for governor, 2,906 to 1,681.

Scott Schwab beat out Jeanna Repass for secretary of state, 3,675 to 1,014.

Attorney general candidate Kris Kobach edged out Chris Mann, 3,120 to 1,590.

Treasurer candidate Steven Johnson got 3,434 votes to Lynn Rogers’ 1,116.

In other county races, there were no real contests and no surprises.

Sheriff Jeff Soyez, running for an unexpired term, got 4,245 votes to 109 write-in votes.

Incumbent commissioners Jonah Gehring, with 895; David Crofoot, with 911; and Kent Becker, with 729; were retained.

Although election night results don’t list names of write-in votes and Florence resident Tom Britain ran a write-in campaign against Crofoot, total write-in votes are listed. Only 64 votes were written in vs. 911 votes for Crofoot in the District 4 race.

Scott Hill, running unopposed for 70th District representative, garnered 1,849 votes.

In the race for 74th District representative, incumbent Stephen Owens received 1,878 votes to Libertarian opponents Henry Hein’s 584.

In total, 4,778 ballots were cast. Of them, 359 were cast in advance, 896 were cast early, and 3,523 were cast on election day.
