When Logan Ragsdale graduated from high school, he didn’t know what he wanted to do.
Now, nine years later, he is graduating from Kansas State University as a certified flight instructor.
He is one of seven KSU graduates named “outstanding seniors.”
A grandson of Rex and Margaret Wilson of Marion, Logan lost his mother, Lisa Wilson Ragsdale, when he was in middle school. Her death was an emotional blow. He struggled academically through high school and delayed college.
Logan played the cello in high school. After graduation, he landed a job at Kansas City Strings, where he worked for five years.
One day, when he was at the top of the pay scale, he told his grandmother, “I don’t want to have a job; I want to have a career.”
He wanted to be a pilot, so Margaret arranged for him to enroll in Kansas State’s aerospace and technology campus in Salina.
He became involved in student government and was a resident assistant for three years. He taught flight lessons this year and will graduate Saturday with a perfect 4.0 grade point average.
Logan isn’t sure what he will do next.
“He’s focused on finishing his course work and teaching and is waiting for something else to come up,” Margaret said Monday. “I’m very proud of him.”
