Group seeks roof for park stage

Staff writer

A roof over the stage and a portion of its seating area at Central Park is the next priority of Marion Advancement Campaign.

Mickey Lundy, board member and secretary for MAC, said the organization hasn’t yet finalized its plans for the size and style of the roof. Their vision is for a roof that extends over the seating area in front of the stage as well as over the stage itself.

The stage itself was an earlier project of MAC.

“We are finishing the Central Park stage roof, that is the primary focus right now,” Lundy said.

Lundy said when the MAC board meets tonight, they will hear more about the project from board member Andy Hanson, who has been working with engineers on preliminary design.

“They’re still working on final dimensions for the roof,” Lundy said.

MAC hopes to have the roof installed before Old Settler’s Day festivities.

MAC’s annual fundraiser will be held at 6 p.m. June 11 at Marion Community Center’s ballroom.

The evening’s entertainment will feature Dueling Pianos.

They hope to raise enough money for both the roof project and repairs to a fountain in Central Park.
