Mothers of Preschoolers of Marion’s half-marathon fundraiser greatly exceeded expectations, organizer Bethany Carlson said.
The event included a 13.1-mile half-marathon, a two-person relay-half marathon, and a two-mile “fun run” and walk. A total of 128 people participated in fundraiser. Runners came from as far as Oklahoma and Nebraska.
“We were happy when we got to 20,” Carlson said.
Races were Saturday at Marion County Park and Lake.
It was MOPS’ first fundraiser. The event raised about $2,000 after expenses, which were paid for with business sponsorships. Lake residents helped with the races.
After the races, organizers served breakfast casserole. Prizes included baby bottles, pacifiers, and baby food jars filled with candy.
Danny McClenahan won the men’s half-marathon with a time of 1:18:36. Megan Smethers won the women’s half marathon in 1:38:13.
David Thompson and Marvin Gaines won in relay half marathon, at 1:38:05. Jordan Hett won the men’s fun run in 12:28, and Marissa McClure won the women’s fun run in 14:56.
