Harry J. Herbel, 86, father of Hillsboro resident Jane Brown, died April 14 at Herington Municipal Hospital. He was born July 9, 1928, at Herington, son of Fred and Anna L. (Sauer) Herbel.

Funeral services were Monday at St. Mark Chapel in Herington. Military committal followed at Sunset Hill Cemetery.

Among the businesses Herbel operated was Surplus City of Herington, which he owned. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

He married Patsy Miller on May 15, 1955, and she preceded him in death in 1958. He married Joyce DeBus on Aug. 23, 1959. She preceded him in death in 1986. He was also preceded by a son, Fred Herbel; a brother, Charles Herbel; sisters Marie Cameron and Irene “Hon” Castleberry, and two grandchildren.

He is survived by Brown along with two other daughters, Jeannie Jo Caselman of Salina and Julia Gartrell of El Cajon, California; son Jerry Herbel; sister Virginia Phelps of Herington; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
