HHS band performs in band contest
Hillsboro High School Band had a successful performance May 3 at World’s of Fun Band Contest. The band received a I rating (excellent) from the three judges. There were competitors from five states at the contest. “I would like to thank all those who supported our band this year so we could go on this trip,” said Gregg Walker, director of Hillsboro Trojan Bands.
He also thanked sponsors and bus driver, Skye Young, Robin Allen, Rhonda Toal, and Rhonda Wiens.
Band students also were able to go to Kansas City Zoo, Cabela’s, and American Jazz Museum, and enjoy the city’s cuisine.
Students who received I ratings for solos and ensembles were Percussion Ensemble, Clay Shewey, J. Michael Hiebert, Jordan Riggs, Elise Heyen, and Cory Abbott; and Matthew Hiebert, trumpet solo.
Sara Jones received a II for a flute solo.
