HHS musicians going to state

Hillsboro High school vocal and band students will compete at state after “superior” performances Saturday at a regional festival at Tabor College.

Soloists and ensembles receiving I, or superior, ratings earned a trip to the 3A State Music Festival April 25 at Southeast of Saline High School.

Vocalists receiving a I rating were soloists Nolan Dirks, Jessica Elliot, Cassie Kroeker, Luke Moore, Hayley Pankratz, Dakota Peterson, Amanda Roble, Heidi Schroeder, Jet Skiles, Nathan Vogel, Carly Weisbeck, and Matt Wiebe. Girls’ ensemble, Spirit-N-Celebration, SNC men, and SNC women earned I ratings as ensembles.

Instrumental soloists Wiebe and Sara Jones and percussion ensemble also earned superior ratings.

Vocalists receiving excellent ratings for solos were Kelsey Bartel, Brenna Blackketter, Kimberly Brown, Elise Heyen, Emma Heyen, Evan Just, Olivia Kliewer, and Krista Reimer. Trumpet ensemble also received an excellent rating.

Flute ensemble, flute trio, clarinet ensemble, and saxophone trio each received an average rating.

Large choirs and bands will compete April 15 at Large Group State Festival at Bethany College in Lindsborg.
