Hillsboro High School band and choirs earned favorable ratings April 15 at State Music Festival for large groups at Bethany College in Lindsborg.

Girls Glee, Mixed Chorus, and Concert Choir each received “outstanding” I ratings, and high school band received an “excellent” II.

Groups were judged on a scale of I to V, with I being best.

“I was very proud of the kids,” band director Gregg Walker said. “They have improved.”

Walker said one judge had heard the band perform before and complimented their improvement, as did several band directors.

The next contest for HHS musicians is Solo/Ensemble State Music Festival, Saturday at Southeast of Saline High School.
